Book Haul from the Porterville Library book sale today

Got some cool old books at the library book sale today….some I will keep, some I will trade in at other better bookstores, and some I will give away. Total cost: 5 dollars.

Richard Nixon – Six Crises: a 1962 paperback probably meant to outline a political comeback while Kennedy was Prez

The Ecology of Animal Movement – a 1972 science monograph that seems to cover on research about optimal populations densities for wild animal species.

Green Delusions, An Environmentalist Critique of Radical Environmentalism. This must have been a textbook, the first few chapters are marked with highliters, but then the student must have dropped the course.

Basic Texts in International Relations: There must be a lot of basic texts, this is a big book!

The Homesteader’s Handbook, A guide to independent living. Hippie stuff from 1974, this will go on my “Me and You and a dog named Boo” shelf.

The Other Californians: Prejudice and Discrimination under Spain, Mexico and the United States to 1920 – this will fit in nicely with the history I am reading and studying.

The Opposable Mind: How Successful Leaders Win Through Integrative Thinking. Not that important to most folks around here, but I care. No one to talk about it with, so I have to read about stuff like this…

The Weather Makers: How Man is changing the climate and what it means for life on earth – I should probably read a whole treatise on this topic, this 2005 book might be a good place to start.

The Inflationary Universe: The quest for a new theory of Cosmic Origins – popular science in physics and cosmology, might as well not write off that part of my education completely, if I ever get to this….

Terrorism, An introduction : OMG, I am getting old, this is a freaking textbook! And not a “how-to”, but from a local Criminal Justice community college course I assume. It looks pretty much untouched, so keep that in mind when you are “contacted” by our local gendarmes.

A small stack of books on writing Psychology Dissertations, doing Social Science Research and similar. I know which local psychologist just completed a dissertation and became licensed, someone is going to get razzed for dumping books (and not offering them to me directly ) 🙂

The Saga of Special Effects: The complete history of cinematic illusion, from Edison’s Kinetoscope to dynamation, sensrround – and beyond. Maybe this will give me some ideas for some fun experiments 🙂

Understanding the game of the environment: This is a 1975-ish report from the US Dept. of Agriculture/Forest Service that looks to have some cool pictures and diagrams. Click on the link, and you can see this report as a pdf.

The Startup Guide: a one year plan for entrepreneurs – I wish they had a thousand copies of this, I would hand them out all over town.

Nolo Press – How to form your own CA Corporation- glancing at my shelf now, I see I already have a much later copy of this. OK, gonna give it away.
